A Gentle Day of Winter Calm
Leave Tallinn behind at 9:00 and follow your guide east into Lahemaa National Park — a quiet world where winter arrives differently each day. Some mornings the forest is powdered in snow, soft and silent; other days the bog is wrapped in silvery frost, every pine branch edged with ice. Sometimes a light snowfall drifts in the air, and sometimes the world feels still and bright under a pale winter sun.
No matter the weather, the landscape has a peaceful beauty of its own, and your guide will choose the most suitable trails for the day.Your morning begins with a slow walk on the wooden boardwalk through Viru Bog — one of Estonia’s most iconic natural landscapes. In winter, the bog pools mirror the grey-blue sky, and the low season brings a feeling of deep quiet. Your guide will share stories of how these ancient wetlands formed, how the plants survive the cold, and how wildlife leaves subtle tracks along the trail. After the walk, warm your hands around a cup of hot tea outdoors and simply breathe in the stillness.
From the bog, continue to Palmse Manor, where centuries-old trees and the grand 18th-century estate look especially atmospheric in winter light.
Then stop for a late lunch in the traditional fishing village of Altja — a cozy tavern serving hearty Estonian food perfect for a winter’s day.
Depending on the weather and the light, the afternoon may take you on a gentle seaside walk past wooden fishermen’s houses, or into the forest for a short trail sheltered from the wind. The exact route may change slightly with winter conditions, but the mood remains the same: unhurried, quiet, and deeply refreshing.
By the time we begin the drive back to Tallinn, the early winter dusk will be settling in — a peaceful end to a full and memorable day in Estonia’s nature.

Winter Tour FAQ
What if there is no snow?
Winter in Estonia can be snowy, frosty, icy, or dry — and all conditions have their own beauty. The bog is atmospheric in every weather, and the tour is enjoyable with or without snow.
Is the bog walk difficult?
No. The Viru Bog trail is flat and easy, with wooden walkways. Total walking distance is around 3.5–5 km at a very gentle pace.
What if it’s icy or very windy?
We adjust the route to keep everyone safe and comfortable.
If the boardwalk is slippery, we choose a forest trail.
If it’s windy at the coast, we stay inland.
The experience remains beautiful and calm every time.
Do we walk in the dark?
No. We use the best daylight hours (10:00–14:30).
Sunset in winter is early, and we plan the itinerary accordingly.
Can children join?
Yes, children age 8+ are welcome with suitable clothing.
Younger children may join on request.
Do I need special shoes?
Warm winter boots with good grip are recommended.
What kind of vehicle is used?
We use comfortable modern minibuses with winter tyres, heating, and safe drivers experienced with winter roads.
Is lunch included?
No — lunch is not included so you can choose your preferred dish at Altja tavern.
Is the tour cancelled if weather is bad?
Only in extreme conditions (storms or dangerous roads).
Light snow, wind, frost, or rain do not affect the experience — we adjust the route.
